Meet The Staff
- Brent Helton, Minister of Music and Ministry Development
Brent is a native Missourian (show me!) and graduate of Southwest Baptist University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was transplanted to North Carolina 31 years ago by way of Arlington, Virginia and New Orleans. He has served churches in Missouri, Virginia, Louisiana and North Carolina, coming to Hillsdale in September, 1998.
Brent’s wife, Merrillyn, has been in private business for the past 27 years. They have been married for 37 years and have two sons, Chad (married to Camilla) and Jeremy (married to Jennifer),four grandchildren, Emma and Carter (Chad and Camilla), and Jane and Ardin Claire (Jeremy and Jennifer).
I like to... Go 4-wheeling in the Uwharrie Mountains, fish (when I make time!), do yard work (as long as I can see some results!) and read.

- Jason Whitaker, Minister to Students
Jason is a native of North Carolina. He grew up as a Stokes’ County boy playing on the farm and in the woods. His passions are God, his wife, and anything outdoors! He graduated from Appalachian State University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with degrees in Music Education. He is currently a full-time student in the seminary at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. The sooner he gets done with it the better because he wants to be unleashed for Christ in full-time ministry.
Jason has a beautiful wife named Kristen and together they have two “furry” kids named Sadie and Mollie. Both are 2 years old. Kristen and Jason teach in the Davie County School System. They feel that teaching is a calling and ministry itself. “Give us kids, and we will teach!”

- Julie Sugg, Preschool Director
Julie, the Director of Preschool at Hillsdale Baptist Church, is a native of Davie County with a passion for children, an abundance of training and experience in teaching. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University in 2000 with additional education at Kingston University in London, England and Western Carolina University. Julie has taught 2nd grade and four-year-old preschool, in addition to other roles in early education.
Julie is married to Josh and they have 4 children; Aidan, Katie, Nancy and Savannah.

- John Veach, Bookkeeper & Office Assistant
John Veach, part-time bookkeeper and office assistant at Hillsdale, was born and raised in Davie County. He and Patricia have been married for 40 years and they have a son, John Jr, a daughter, Tracy, and three grandchildren. John, who likes working outdoors, numbers and computers, (not necessarily in that order!) is retired from Ingersoll-Rand after 35 years service. He also has had 14 years experience with the Davie County Rescue Squad and EMS.
